The irony is that the Chinese are the ultimate competitor to GM. GM just helped that process along by selling the goods for the previous gen 9^3 and 9^5. GM's Buick is a (the?) top foreign brand in China and that is probably the main reason GM dumped Pontiac in favor for Buick. GM will lose market share once the Chinese start producing competitive domestic cars. With SAAB's old bits they just got a leg up on that process.
A niche manufacturer like SAAB is not, and should not be, a competitor to more mainstream brands such as Opel. SAAB should be run in a similar fashion as Apple: who cares about market share if you have high margins and (mostly) happy customers who "think different" and are willing to show that with their choice in cars.
