Just to be sure we're on the same page here, you are talking about the timing belt, not the serpentene belt right? That engine can get an oil leak in the timing belt area which can cause it to rot. If it breaks you have BIG problems (had it happen). And the incidious thing is you can't tell it's leaking unless you take off the timing belt cover. The moral of the story is to make sure the timing belt gets changed right away (it's due every 60K). Otherwise they're good cars.
