Last year I picked up a combination Makita 1/4" impact driver and 1/2" drill for $300. It came in a carrying case with 2 batteries and charger. I then sent away for a FREE third tool. I got the reciprocating saw. It was the tool only, no battery or case.
The 1/4" impact driver is rated for around 100 ft/lbs, but does not come close to the rating. I break the lug nuts the old fashion way, and then use the impact driver to spin them off. When putting wheels back on, I use the impact drive to take it most of the way, and then use a torque wrench. While this system is not perfect, it saves a lot of time over just using a hand tool. Plus the 1/4" impact driver has come in very handy on other car related jobs. I thin a 1/2" impact drive would have been too big for these other tasks.
