IKEA cabinets. You can outfit an entire kitchen with new cabinets for a fraction of the cost of custom cabinets. Again, it really depends on what you tastes are but I will tell you I am very particular about things and I was very satisfied with the IKEA cabinets. The doors are solid wood. The frames are not but they are stronger than the lower end junk that HD and Lowes have in the store.

We had two quotes for custom cabinets that were $10-$12K and this was a smaller kitchen. I did the IKEA cabinets for just a hair under $3K.

Very customizable as well. It took me some time to plan and more than one trip to IKEA to complete the job but the end result was very good.

We have since moved (kept that house and leased it out) and now live in a newly constructed home with job built cabinets. I miss my IKEA cabinets every time I'm in the kitchen!
