Well as others have said if you want to drive in misery etc choose a Corolla. Looking at reliability my Saab 9-5 really has the same record at 155,000 miles. Tires, oil, gas. Even the current brakes have gone now for 80,000 miles ( manual and highway driving a lot) .
Would that I could say that our purchase of a brand new Toyota Camry in 1988 was so special. Within 10 months of new the engine siezed a bearing. Turns out there was sludge in the engine and good ol Toyota refused to warranty it even with full documentation of oil changes. The entire engine was replaced without a nickle from them. The replacement engine failed about 2 years later. Nothing but silence from Toyota.
It wasn't until the recent news about Toyota that it was revealed that Toyota did have a mojor problem in that time frame with engine failures due to sludge being created in the engine abnormally.
Whilst others who don't know Saabs snicker and jeer how can you afford to keep that going, the realtiy has been a different story in my experiences which are now over 1 and half million miles in Saabs in our family.
