I have a 1969 1800S Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Mon, 24 May 2010 09:12:45 In Reply to: Anyone here know about the 1800ES, Ken [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 21 May 2010 19:43:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
although it has been sitting on blocks in my garage for the last 10 years waiting for me to find the time to do the restoration it badly needs.
Remember that Volvo's were ahead of their time back in the late 60s/early 70s, so it is a far better driving experience than you might expect. The 1800ES has the venerable B20 engine and it's fuel injected so it's good for about 125HP I believe - pretty decent for a small relatively light car. My carb'ed 1800S had decent poke - nothing compared to the turbo boost in my 9k, but enough to provide a fun driving experience. It also has the best feeling gear change I have ever experienced in any car.
IPD (and no doubt other suppliers) still have a full range of performance supension mods for these cars, so you can get a pretty good ride out of one.
The biggest problem will be rust - examine the rocker panels, floors and fenders for signs of Bondo and badly done patches.
Good luck!
