The NG900/OG9-3 aren't exactly the best Saab in terms of passive safety (what most people talk about when comparing cars' safety).
Wasn't the 9000 the long-standing "Safest car in Sweden" based on actual crash injury rates compiled by Folksam, until the 9-5 surpassed it more recently?
If I were to choose a car to be in during an accident, I'd pick the e46 over an OG 9-3. I'd probably pick a 9-5 over an e46.
That being said, to call any Saab a cheap Swedish car is to misunderstand the car to such an extreme as to call into question the person's knowledge of car safety in general.
