$300 may be a lot of money to you, but may not be to someone who is already making a $3000/mo car payment . . . every six months (probably a secondary or tertiary car) that's $18,000, what difference does another $300 make? Wouldn't you want the peace of mind provided by the dealership receipts in that case?
It's no different from $39 oil change being a relative non-issue for most (new) Saab owners; even if change oil by oneself, using synthetic, hence $25 instead of dyno-juice at $5, is no big deal; whereas a long time ago, buyers of a $5000 Hyundai (especially the $500 second-Hyundai) would balk at the cost of any oil change at all and let their engine seize up eventually. None of these choicest are necessarily invalid . . . okay, perhaps not the extending oil changes so long as to letting the engine seize up . . . but then again, that's precisely what many car makers recommended in the early 2000's when they had to foot the bill of maintenance.
Value/Price has little to do with cost of production, but everything to do with finding a buyer willing to pay. Cost of production only comes in the sense that another provider has the potential of luring away the customer hence the one trying to charge high price may not find enough buyers willing to pay. How many oil change shops out there are specializing in discount Ferrari oil changes anyway?
