"Only strengthened for the specific angles that are tested"...this simply isn't true. All current new generation cars, with some exceptions, are designed for excellent protection of occupents in frontal and side collisions. Rear end protection in the form of proper seating geometry can also be had in nearly all marques. Roof strength is one area where some lag behind, but certainly not the exclusive domain of the Swedish or other European marques. I don't know why the closure of the safety gap between cheaper non-luxury cars and the pricey Europeans is such a tough pill to swallow. I think it's a great thing. Poeple shouldn't have to suffer massive trauma in an accident just becuase they didn't pony up $40K for a new car.
