Yes, that'll test the theory, if the jumper jumps over the corrosion.
If the corrosion/resistance is located between the actual battery post & the clamp (part of the cable), then it'll be difficult to bridge over that resistance.
Maybe easier to use a voltmeter. Positive lead on a good engine ground; negative lead on the actual post of the battery. Measure voltage drop while trying to crank. Then move the probes around until you narrow down the location of the high-ish voltage drop.
