New automotive refrigerant coming........ Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 26 Jul 2010 04:29:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just a "heads up" for anyone who may be planning to purchase refrigerant service equipment, and general knowledge for the rest of us.
A new refrigernat will be used in some model year 2013 vehicles. This new gas is called HFO-1234YF and will be replacing the current R-134a gas. The cited advantage of the new gas is that it breaks down in the environment in only 11 days versus the 13 years required by R-134a yielding a much lower Green House Gas value.
What this rapid decomposition means to garages who do random automotive AC service is a good question. Maybe they will have to buy it in one-pound cans only rather than 30 pound bottles? I also don't know how many vehicle manufacturers will be using it, or if it is compatible with the current R-134a gas.
