On the face of it, this news is a little discouraging. I'll wait to see what comes of agreement, but I wouldn't want much less power than I have in my '06 9-3 Aero. Audi and VW do well with 4-cyl engines of about 200 hp, but both are two liter and provide a lot of torque.
Hard for me to fathom how Saab will compete with the A4, 3-series, C-class and upcoming Ford Focus with a 3500-lb car that relies on a 1.6L engine, and which will require some interior and chassis refinement to boot. Or are we perhaps talking about a new 9-3 on a new chassis and somewhat smaller?
I am rooting for Spyker, but the strategy which appears to be unfolding eludes me at this point. I think the jury is still out on Saab's future.
