By purchasing the "Family Pack", you've kept yourself "legal" in Apple's eyes. While yes, the "regular" version DVD would install on any number of Macs, the license is only for ONE Mac. Right now, you're covered for up to six Macs. Five with the "Family Pack" and the one that came with your new Mac.
You didn't "waste" $20 on the Family Pack. Quite frankly, $20 ($29 vs. $49) is DIRT cheap to add four OSX licenses to your household. Even if you did the Box Set Family Pack, it was only $50 more to add four licenses for all that software.
With Windows 7, it's full price for EACH machine you install it on, and they have the license keys to back it up. AFAIK, no "Family Packs" exist for MS products.
And, as AIS said, the recovery disks that come with the new Mac probably won't install on any other type of Mac, and besides, that license is only good for that one Mac.
