I would agree about there being no harm in pulling off the road and avoiding a ticket though I would also not encourage people to run from the police.
My encounters way back were similar to what others wrote.
Going one way down a divided highway, doing maybe 70 in a 55 zone. The officer turned on the lights and hit me with radar (the detector told me so).
The officer had to go a long distance up a very long hill and make a u-turn at a light and come back down the hill after me, which helped me get that 70 MPH in the first place.
At the time, turning onto a side road or into a parking lot seemed reasonable and the officer drove right by.
Happened more than once on this same rural, divided highway that going down a very big hill, you had to ride the brakes not to pickup speed... and I was 20 or so in a Saab - slowing down to stay at 55 wasn't my style ;)
