Tim is right...
"There will be voice, and we hope to add more + more functionality to voice as we progress into the next generation of vehicles."
That was a comment from Christopher McKinnon when he was describing the system. He also mentions that they are already beta testing this + trying to decide which features will be accessible while driving ("you will not be able to check your facebook status while driving")... they are also trying to limit the interface depth, at least for common things...
With buttons/knobs, they should be large enough that you can hit them without looking for more than a tiny fraction of a second glance. I haven't spent enough time in a 9-5 to get to that point with the AC buttons... I think they are pretty good, but like Tim, I find the system of knob + button combinations like in the c900 to be faster + easier with gloves (though I find I pull the gloves off within minutes, even in -20 or whatever, the car heats up so fast)...
I have a few concerns related to implementational details of all this, particularly over the long term of ownership, but I also think more + more cars are going to end up down this road in the future... it's totally gonna be like KITT from Knight Rider haha!
Saab has always been very good at UI design. I hope they continue in that vein, and not go for aesthetics over function fads (like red dash lighting etc)... I don't think they will...
James...
