It's suburban LA just off the 210 Fwy tucked up right against the San Gabriel Mountains. Cloer to San Bernardino than downtown LA. Not too far from Pasadena. Best airport to use is Ontario. Cheap tickets and a very nice terminal. Avoid LAX at all costs.

Claremont has small lots, nice homes, and views of towering peaks. Mt Baldy is right there at a little over 10,000 ft.The views are especially nice this time of year with all the snow on top (a fresh storm is happening right now through tonight with lots of new snow). Typical SoCal snow skiing is less than an hour away. Gets windy when the Santa Anas blow.

Claremont College is there so there's some educated folks milling around. Don't know about crime and demographics but, like most of LA, nice areas can be mere blocks from less nice areas. People go to the beach in Orange County since it's a straight shot down the 57 Fwy to Santa Ana and then from there to Newport Beach, Laguna, etc.

Don't know of any local Saab mechanics. As for using the services of Anders and Walter Wong, I use Anders and I live north of the San Gabriels out in the desert. [I'm sure Walter is just fine too]. It can be a slog but the bottom line is that competent and honest service is worth driving to. Anders in Torrance wouldn't be that big a problem from Claremont if you time the drive to account for traffic. That's what I do.
