Victor Muller has used his boundless energy to stick to the job. He got GM to let go in the midst of their desire to shuttter SAAB. It is necessary for Victor to continue to lead the company against all odds and that is very difficult with the hostile attitude of the Swedish govt officials towards SAAB.
Has everything gone in the right direction ? No ,certainly not. but how much of that was able to be directed by VM. As an example the new 9-5 was brought to the US market with no 4 cylinder engine, no manual transmission and no sun roof. All important to many previous SAAB buyers.
I believe that the largest marketing failure was that of stepping out without a longer warranty period. Look how well it worked for Hyundai. It doesn't cost anything for the company for at least 4 years, but pays big dividends now in sales.
The devil is in the details and perhaps too many of those details came from business as usual employees of SAAB. The significance of a new COO for NA can't be overlooked.
I have confidence that Victor will see that Saab continues.
