Got sucked into watching the last few minutes of the Brazil - US women's game from Dresden. Hard to get excited over a sport in which it's culturally acceptable and -- indeed -- expected that a player will fake a major injury to enable a victory for their team.
Trying to runout the clock, a Brazil player collapses to the turf as if shot by a sniper, gets strapped to a stretcher by the 'emergency' medical team, and then miraculously jumps off the stretcher and bounds around like a kangaroo the second she's off the field as if the game was played in Lourdes instead of Dresden. Meanwhile, the ever-vigilent and impartial ref throws a yellow card at her instead of tossing her out of the game. But all that 'extra time' was added so it's OK, right?
Anyway, it's called cheating and it's perfectly acceptable in the world of soccer. Whatever. If I wanted fakery I'd watch TV wrestling. So, fine, I hope the US women win against Japan but the whole sport is a farce (and more so with the men's game).
