Even an earlier car, like an '03 that has had regular synthoil changes and has the PCV 6 update is likely OK. Get an '04 or later w/ service records for added confidence.
The 9-5 is a great car. I'm a tightwad and my wife has no tolerance for unreliable or costly to run cars. And she's happy with her 9-5. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
