It is true that in most cases, Bose equipment measures poorly + the sound reflects that also... basically (big imho here not to be insulting to those who own it, but I'll be blunt:) Bose is overpriced junk, stay away from it...

There are good reasons some very reputable manufacturers didn't give specs (though many that didn't, eg Naim, now often do). The big one is that it is impossible to provide sufficiently complete specification for hifi, that the general public could understand + interpret properly. Basically, the numbers of "frequency response" "power" and "distortion" you read in equipment ratings are basically meaningless to the point of being potentially misleading... there is so much more + why a $100 Sony (or whatever, ok consumer) amp with 0.0001% thd might sound vastly worse than something costing 10x the price with 0.01%... etc... and it's all good reasons based on physics + sound engineering... it's just beyond the customer...

instead... evaluate gear by listening to it. do you hear things you shouldn't? does it sound like real life? if someone makes a noise in the room, does it sound like it's in the recording? a good shop might let you audition it in your home, or at least have a good place for you to audition it in store.

but wrt bose, I don't mean to start a flame war, but just avoid it (unless you want it just for the aesthetics). you will be better off! there is less costly stuff that is better also, if budget is a consideration...

James...
