This question has been on my mind for several years. I bought an '08 SS Aero instead of an older Viggen because of reliability, warranty, etc. I've never regretted it, but I've also never stopped wondering about what the alternative might have felt like. The Aero's LP9 engine is stellar, if not thrilling, like a Viggen. It's smooth, powerful, and reliable, but it doesn't make you slightly afraid, as the Viggen does with its combination of power and torque steer. Steve Wade called a "brutal beauty," and that's not a term you'd use for an SS Aero. It probably depends on your appetite for risk; the Viggen will have an irreducibly mysterious history and allure, while the Aero delivers simpler, cleaner satisfaction. I will say I'm likely to boost the Aero engine in some fashion, once it's off warranty, my kids get a little older, etc. But I have no plans to get a different car.
