I think a Kizashi (Suzuki) comes close. Crash tests well, about 170 HP (same as our 9-3 sedan), bolt in roof rack, auto climate control, can be had with a stick.
It gets good reviews, and it isn't so common that people fall asleep just watching you drive past. IMO, it actually looks pretty good.
For a little bit of an outside shot, take a look at a Mitsu Lancer Ralliart. 2.0 turbo, hatch or sedan, good crash tests, decent room inside, but AWD and without all the baggage that comes with an Audi. I think they look pretty good outside, but not as great inside. Again, not so common as an Audi or whatever.
The Subies are good, I think, but the '11 and '12 Legacy/Outback/Imprezas are not what I'd term an aesthetically pleasing experience. The substance is maybe enough to get past that. Hate to reward indifferent design, though.
