some of it totally justifiable. You don't want to break down in what is basically an oddball car to most mechanics. See if you can know in advance where some Saab repair shops are.
It sounds like you're prepping the car well. Do as much as you can before you go, but still have spare parts.
I haven't done that trip, but it's in the planning stage. Being able to fix most things that can go wrong is the key. Have a good set of tools--enough to do some major repairs. Have a floor jack, jack stands, and some lumber or plywood to put under the jack/stands if you have to work on dirt. Take a tarp or sheets of polyethylene. Have multiple flashlights, including headlamps. I'd consider taking a small generator. Carry extra gas. New axles, or at least re-packed CV joints, before the trip might be a good idea, too.
Do all the hoses and the water pump. Have a spare serp belt and pulleys (used are fine), even if the ones on there are new. If you don't do them ahead of time, take a fuel pump, alternator, and a PS pump, maybe a starter. Take a look at the motor mounts. Look over the exhaust for any weak spots. Even if it's all good, have some spare hangers & mechanic's wire with you.
Flush all the fluids and change all the filters. Have a couple gallons of premixed coolant on board. Have PS and brake fluid in the trunk.
That all makes sure the car is pretty well ready to go. Now be sure you're ready for a really long drive with some pretty boring sections. And the Al-Can goes through truly remote country. You have to be self-sufficient and know that your cell phone will not work most places. However, people do stop if you breakdown.
Get the car ready and go! And have lots of bug repellent for a spring/summer trip.
