I passed a Mazda 3 yesterday in our 2004 9-5. The Mazda is newer. Bubbling rust everywhere on the back end, seeping out the tail lights + perforation. The 9-5 got it's first rust spray this year (we just bought it). It is 99.9% rust free with none visible if you don't look under the car at the suspension.
So there is a difference. Cars rust fast here + hyundai and kia are among the worst (right up there with mazda).
any car really needs oil spray if it sees salt... holy crap it makes a difference!
I don't like Hyundais or Kias... no interest in them though I will admit the 2.0T sounds saabish - they have been copying saabish elements throughout the last decade (the premise of these companies is copycat, but they are at least starting to develop their own design language, even if it is not to my taste, I give them credit for branching out)... wrt safety, they are improving: from bottom of the barrel hdli numbers to average... but saabs are generally cream of the crop for hdli scores, so there is a difference! iihs crash tests don't tell the full story. the saab real life safety program is valuable + a big reason I own 3 saabs! If I could never buy another saab, volvo would be high up on my list because they have the same mindset wrt safety (even if the cars produce fewer driving grins)...
the original post was kind of inflammatory + undesirable, but I can understand his sentiment a little, but I think it is misplaced... owners of the 2011 9-5 are lucky to have a fantastic, super safe, great performing + unique car... warranty may be gone, but hopefully there will be parts, and imho, don't fret about it... just enjoy it... we'll see what happens to the company... may come back stronger than ever with the right ownership... or be gone forever... sure hope that doesn't happen! I want the future hybrid 9-3 (once it has matured etc)!
James...
