basically, imho, if whoever buys Saab can't generate sales in North America, the sales network will largely disappear. Some big multi-brand dealers (eg Budds in Canada) will survive + possibly pick up the brand again later... but the small ones need to pay the bills...
I hate to say it, but I would be much more excited to see Saab picked up by something like BMW, in a fashion like Mini... produce a 900 fwd SAAB branded hatchback to complement the rwd BMW sedans (as Tim and others have suggested)...
Saab needs a buyer with *actual* deep pockets and a long view. I think the product is pretty much there, but cash flow is not. Quite frankly, I don't think Youngman has deep enough pockets. I think they want the technology cheap + may also have good intentions wrt keeping the brand going in Sweden, but those good intentions may fall by the wayside when economics dictate otherwise... I suppose I shouldn't be so skeptical so soon though...
btw, I should clarify my earlier comments... "NG9-3" is becoming a meaningless expression since we are going on to the 3rd generation of the 9-3 (or 900 depending what they call it)... what I meant is the car to be de-GM'ed and sold in China is the 9-3ss/sc and this will help fund the final development + production of the future 9-3/900 Castriotamobile... Perhaps that is what JTMav meant originally!
