I had a chalk white VW Scirocco and a white Saab 9000 and all they did in winter was begin to look gray if I didn't wash them.
My wife's Steel Gray '03 9-5 hides the grime of a NH winter really well, as does my Citrin Beige 9000.
I find the salt-sand mix goes about 1/3 of the way up the doors when driving but falls off in a day or two and just leaves the salt/grime residue which blends right in silver or gray car.
OTOH, my elder daughter's black 9000 and the younger one's blue OG 9-3 show everything.
