Just came back from a Valentine's Day evening movie with my wife. The movie is supposedly about a real life story of a husband and wife that got into a car crash and the wife loses her memory of being married, etc. Well in the opening scene, the couple is coming out of a restaurant in Chicago on a beautiful, snowy night. Much to my surprise, the wife gets in the car covered with snow but the door closing sounded like a Saab door. The seats looked like a Saab - could it be a Saab in a brand new movie? Then the husband is seen cleaning off the snow while the wife is inside the car telling him to hurry up. When he starts the car it is definitely the sound of a NG 900 sport exhaust - nice and throaty sounding! It turns out to be a burgundy 3dr 900 SE with Viking Aeros! It looks really nice with some snow on it, etc. also. There is a nice accurate shot of the NG dash also. However, the wife and him start to have some fun at a stop light, the wife takes off her seat belt, the light turns green, they stay at a stand still, a plow comes along and can't stop and rear ends them. The wife is ejected right through the windshield and lands on the hood of the NG. If you search on youtube for the trailer you can see a small portion of the scene. I was able to notice a few inconsistencies in the trailer that I couldn't have caught in the theater because it happens so fast. While it sounds identical to the sport exhaust available in '97 because we have that option on one of our current 5 Saabs - (We have a BLACK 3dr NG 900 SE 5spd - which is an absolute rocket by the way and way too much fun to drive!) the trailer shows that it doesn't have the sport exhaust. Also, in the trailer I noticed the center cap on the rear wheel has the paint coming off of it like some do that aren't taken care of, but when I saw the car in the movie - it looked mint and gorgeous but again it all happens so fast.
Regardless, though, it made my day to see a Saab, and a NG 900 Saab at that, in a major release current movie! My wife caught the fact that it was a Saab before I had convinced myself, which was kind of cool - also. She whispered to me, "That's a Saab, isn't it?" I thought about Saab throughout the whole movie and how cool that car looked before the crash, of course. Am I certifiably nuts about this brand or what? I think so. I know so. I just want there to be a buyer soon that will restart it and keep it whole for many, many years to come! (The movie wasn't all that great though. My wife enjoyed it. Not bad for Val Day I guess.) Check it out for the NG though - it is worth it.
