I've had a 99 Passat wagon for the past 6 years...alongside my c900T...
She's a sweetheart of a 1.8L turbo...
MPG is fine,...
factory rails are great and easy to attach crap to...load bars, etc.
And its CAVERNOUS inside with the rear seats folded down (flat!)...
Tow packages are easy, and pulling a 4x8 trailer is great. I load 'er full regularly, but in all honesty, I can't say she's awesome at highway speeds with 2000lbs...engine is a bit weak for that (compared to my c900T which can pass cars on hills with that much weight behind it).
Easy to mod, easy to maintain, sleeper-style, I ain't selling her anytime soon.
