That is my understanding from postings from buyers of the knockoff DIC's and also from techs like Anders. Newer black DIC's seem to last very well. Knockoffs maybe as little as a couple months... but that's just my impression from reading the 9-5 bb. I have not yet had a DIC fail... Maybe some of the chinese made DICs do last? Hopefully the BAIC product will be authentic + reliable + maybe even bring the cost down! But it might take time before we see them here + have a way to differentiate those vs the fakes...

it is absolutely true that some chinese electronics are inferior... right down to the chip level. There is a real problem with forgery in China and it extends deeply into the supply chain, whether it is capacitors or forged semiconductors that have significantly reduced performance + lifetimes, yet are nearly indistinguishable from the real deal without opening the package.

I also don't agree that apple products are high quality. They *look* high quality, and are indeed better than some similar products, but that doesn't say much... imho...
