Other oil system O-ring material options Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Tue, 8 May 2012 05:41:58 In Reply to: Re: Oil Pickup Tube O-ring PN9138009 Source?, Gene N [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 7 May 2012 16:31:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In C900 at one time Saab sold a soft, light green, somewhat translucent O-ring for the oil pickup tube to timing cover seal. Whenever I come across one of these engines, the O-ring is still pliable, and tube is removed easily from timing cover. Then Saab went back to black rubber O-rings that harden. Also see that Saab used yellow O-rings on oil cooler lines on NG900 and OG9-3. Again these stay pliable. Perhaps these green and yellow O-rings are fluorinated silicone material. It's possible that hardened O-rings may allow air to enter oil system at seals that are under vacuum, which may contribute to oil related engine failures. Substitution of this material at oil pickup tube seal, oil transfer pipe seals (NG900 & OG9-3), and oil cover seal (NG900, 9-3) might be worthwhile.
