The great irony is that it is not hard to convert trucks to use Natural gas, which produces fewer emissions and increases engine longevity. The largest difficulty as a vehicle fuel is that energy density is less, which means in a car range is limited because of space limitations.
But trucks have much greater amounts of space for CNG or LNG tanks. And there is already a large network of gas lines throughout the country. Compressing the gas is done right at the filling station. The device is about the size of an outdoor unit of an air conditioner. But no trucks required to deliver the fuel. The refuel times are as fast as filling a diesel tank. In some cases conversion allows for dual fuel capability that can use diesel and NG. And the cost of the fuel is much less.
We need to use the high density fuel where there is no practical substitute in aircraft.
