well I will save a lot of typing and provide a reference instead (see below).
wrt the original poster's question, a "6 ohm" driver should work fine with an "8 ohm" source - that just means the amp is rated to deliver the power stated into an 8ohm load (probably just a test resistor if it's a consumer amp)... but speakers all vary significantly in impedance wrt frequency, with significant dips below the nominal stated value... and many loudspeakers employing multiple drivers have even more variation... so amps have to be relatively stable into a range of loads... but not all sound as good into those kinds of loads (even if they otherwise work ok)...
the bigger question I would have is *how* is this jbl speaker going to be hooked into the system and how will it integrate... especially if it is a bass driver (perhaps to supplement the low end?), really a better approach would be to integrate it with a crossover network... which is non-trivial to discuss here. If the jbl is just hooked in parallel with existing speakers, then there could be significant impedance dips that may be problematic for the amp. I would think it would be optimistic to assume the system would sound better by adding an old bass car speaker to an AV setup without careful integration... but there are all different definitions of "better", so it may be a fun thing to try + see what you think...
