I own one and have never used it Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 6 Nov 2012 09:00:57 In Reply to: Generator Advice, rich p, Tue, 6 Nov 2012 07:10:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Back in 2002(?), when the massive power failure that started in Ohio and spread both ways struck, I was working out of town for a couple days. Before I started home I called my wife (The wall phone still worked and is why everyone should have a land line) and she recommended I buy a generator - and gasoline.
The local town in eastern Ohio where I was at still had power and also had a Harbor Freight. I bought a Pramac 2800KW unit with a Honda engine. Then on to WalMart for two 5-gallon gas cans. I filled my 9-5 and both gas cans along the toll road to be sure I would have fuel when I returned home.
As I park in the driveway and my neighbor across the street sees me unload the gas cans he starts laughing. He has turned off his generator and is reeling up the extension cords since the power has just been restored. While he is laughing at my gasoline purchase I pull the new generator out of the truck too.
The generator is still in its box in the garage. The crankcase now has oil in it but the engine has never been fueled or started.
Big enough to run the sump pump, the refrigerator, the furnace, and one lighting circuit. We can rough it without the rest of the stuff for a while.
