I have run those kind of loads on an inverter that I use. I have run circular saws, etc. For the inverter to actually run those loads, you have to have a very good connection between the battery and inverter. Thick cables and it has to be bolted connections, NOT jumper cables. That is my experience.
Definitely don't run the car the same time unless its only a couple hundred watts or so. When I did this with my C900 during a prolonged power outage, I jammed the throttle open so it was running a little above idle. It used about half a tank of gas over eight hours (video below). I ran a couple computer, some lights, and the refrigerator and they all only drew about 500 watts total. Surprising.
I think the best scenario is to buy another automotive battery and wire that up to the alternator. Then run your heavy loads off of that, and when you are running a light load, hook jumper cables to your car battery with the car running and run it.
That's my advice. My C900 had no problem running for 8 hours, but I kept it above idle for the alternator and oil pressure to stay good. I also blipped the throttle every 30 minutes or so, and checked the dash to make sure it wasn't over heating. And I had a fan pointing on the alternator. 500 watts.. worked fine for 8 hours.
