...I'm a loud phone talker!


It's weird, because I'm not loud in other aspects of my life, but if I'm concentrating on the phone I lose sense of my volume and get loud. I can have quick and easy call and focus on keeping it down, but if it's a call I'm concentrating on I'm going to be loud. I'm aware of this and try hard to avoid public phone calls because I hate it when other people are loud on the phone too, but when I worked in a cube and had to be on the phone regularly I knew it drove people crazy but I honestly couldn't do much about it (it's not like I LIKED everyone hearing my phone conversation either).

Now it sounds like this guy is being a little rude or oblivious especially given the voicemail speaker phone thing so hopefully a direct chat will help, but I wouldn't count on it. Some places with cubes provide 'phone booth' mini offices just for people to make calls in, or have empty conference rooms. Do you think that's a possibility? I think it's good for the company when people can conduct business candidly without their co-workers hearing everything or worrying about annoying people, so perhaps a set up like this could benefit you, your co-worker, and your company.
