I made tube amps and shortwave tube transmitters many years back 8-). High power tube transmitter is more dangerous but since you're making an audio amp, it's less so.
Do read up on tube circuits, stay away from B+ (i.e. high voltages) power supply leads and capacitors, yes especially those big ones 8-). The charge on big capacitors can last a while even with the power off, so watch out for those.
But unless you are making a high power amp that has a high current transformer and associated capacitors, the high voltage would give you unpleasant shocks but probably not enough to kill you as the current is relatively low (think taser). Your reflex would be fast enough to disengage in most cases. Guess how I learned 8-), I was in my teens when I did all these.
However do watch out for bare leads into the main transformer as that is direct from the 110V outlet and that could be deadly. I had my share of unpleasant shocks, yes I was stupid.
The truth is I got burnt more from touching those big tubes and the soldering iron than anything else 8-D.
Nice thing about tubes are that they don't get burnt up easily even if you wired the thing incorrectly, unlike some transistors.
