As you pointed out there is the practical part in passengers and carrying capacity, and others have pointed out there is the size/safety difference... how much are you going to drive it & are you planning on having a regular passenger (like a significant other who may really have a preference), do you want it to be there as a back up car that could be driven in the winter if need be? Any desire to want or need to drive it on fast highways or interstates?
I recently went for a drive in a buddy's Spitfire and I had forgotten how small those things really are. I fit fine... but getting in & out was tough (but I'm 6'1", 215lbs of some muscle and some fat, with size 13's). I wouldn't get something that small... (but as someone else pointed out I might be able to make an exception for an Austin Healy 3000 even if all I did was just stare at it... just too beautiful).
Interestingly, my buddy converted the Spitfire to an electric vehicle. While he hasn't timed it, it seemed much quicker than with the original engine... the only real issue is he definitely needs different gearing, for example 1st is nearly worthless (and without engine noise you could really hear the rest of the drive train).... he says if wanted for running around town you go "automatic" and just leave it in third... since idle is 0 rpm don't need to touch the clutch.
