hydraulic floor lift failure Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Sat, 25 May 2013 10:20:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had one of my cars up on the lift a couple of weeks while I was working on various rust spots. Today I lowered to near the floor so I could get in the hatch to check for rust at the top of the strut tower, then raised it up again. As I was raising it up, I noticed I had forgotten to close the hatch so it was hitting the garage door. I quickly lowered it back down a bit, but when I released the lowering button it didn't stop, it just dropped the car all the way to the floor. After that it would not lift the car back up again. Is this a common failure mode for hydraulic lifts, and should it be repairable? What kind of place do I call for such a thing? The lift is the platform type that is recessed into the floor when lowered. It was there when we bought the house, so I don't know make or model or who might have installed it.
