In the winter, the unit will cool suck heat from its environment, furnace then takes up that load. In the summer, it assists the AC, however, if in a basement, basements can become too cool sometimes.
In winter, water supply can be quite cold and that is when the unit will cool its environment the most. In the summer, water supply is warmer and the amount of heat needed to heat the water is reduced.
Here, we get 80F water in the summer. If I had a resistance electric hot water heater, I would expect that it would demand less power in during the spring transition months. However, that would be lost in the power consumption for my AC.
How much noise does your unit make? Is there two tanks? Do you notice colder air around the unit?
