That's the US Car market, for you! Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Fri, 26 Jul 2013 11:28:02 In Reply to: Weird model, AdamB [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 26 Jul 2013 06:40:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Model designations that make sense have almost no place here! Where the EU sees that '320', '325', '328' are just variations of the motor in the same car, In the US, all they know is '328' must be 'better' than '320'...
So, despite the fact it should be badged a "320d", it will be a "328d" here...
Also understand that in the USA, the trim level (what kind of seats/carpets/wood trim/paint colors/tire sizes/etc. you get or can order) varies with the model designation and engine choice.
Where in the EU, you might be able to buy the smallest motor with all the "trimmings" (satnav, power everything, etc.), in the US, they'll sock you for the big motor as well, if you want all the "trimmings".
That's why, in the US at least, we will only get the "320d" wagon (mis-badged as a "328d") with automatic and XDrive...
Whatever it is called, I'm interested in one...
(A friend of mine picked up a 328! wagon from the factory two years ago. We drove it around Sweden, and never noticed that the "i" was on upside-down until it got back to Maine, USA many weeks later! Pics taken at the BMW Velt proved it was always like that!)
