Just checked my July bill and the "variable" portion showed tied to kwh is $0.7288. All in with "fixed" and the taxes that don't show tied to usage is the equivalent of $0.0926. The base charge for electricity is $0.0499 kWh. The town I live in voted for electricity aggregation last year and dropped the base rate by $0.0337 (40%) from $0.0836.
Interestingly, this new rate is for 100% renewable "green" energy through the use of Renewable Energy Credits.
With the cost savings (and placing a new lower ceiling on the rate), a guarantee to be no higher that the local ComEd rate should those fall, and an opt out provision there seemed to be no reason to vote against the referendum yet Amazingly it passed with only 53%... I realize there is a "no political rant" policy here, but based on the the letters to the editor & such when it was proposed it seems certain people of certain political strains in this area lost cents (usage intended) of their faculties on this one.
