What is intriguing is the fact that Mercedes has now moved away from the G-05 and gone to the G-48 formula. I think they were the first to use G-05 and specified it for years. I wouldn't switch coolants, but for an owner who has a car still on G-48, and whose supply of G-48 is now exhausted, a new source of the original factory coolant formula in the original color (or very close) is now available.
One advantage of the blue G-48 over the yellow G-05 is the ease of reading the coolant level through the side of an old and discolored coolant recovery bottle. Otherwise the two formulas are fully compatible with each other and can be mixed or exchanged without worry.
I may buy the Mercedes G-48 for my recently acquired Viggen, but I admit I can be weird at times.
