I agree that we should think of the less fortunate this season, but would you really consider crowds of people fighting over a TV at Walmart on Black Friday to fall into the same group as people who can not afford to shop there? This is more about excess and greed than poverty, no? And even if one was pressured financially, is it acceptable to behave that way? Should one not frown upon that behaviour?
I know Roger's comment was not specific to the Black Friday incidents, but there is a commonality to the culture... which to me is one of greed, not poverty, even if the average shopper there is probably not in the highest income brackets. I suppose greed and income bracket are really independent quantities. I know a few in the highest bracket who are among the least greedy people you'd ever meet.
Is Walmart really even that much cheaper than anywhere else? There are certainly cheaper places in Canada. I thought Walmart's primary appeal was that it has just about everything in 1 place?
