Technology is changing so fast that it can be guaranteed that what ever cable you install initially will be obsolete in 5 years. Hard wire is also 10 times faster than wireless so I agree with your direction. Just make sure you have a way to replace the cable easily in the future.
FWIW - I installed hard wire CAT5 in our home back in early 2001. Today we use mostly wireless for the portable devices but the CAT5 is still connected and available.
