The Fiskars at discount cost the same as the cheapest gasoline powered rotary mowers in the big box stores. The powered rotary mowers with the nicer features were twice as expensive. There are other brands of push type reel mowers which are significantly less than the Fiskars. Assuming cost has some quality indication properties I would expect those mowers to require more set-up out of the box, and they may never be 100% correct. What can you expect for only $50?
McLane, the golf course mower people, make a push reel mower at about the same price as the Fiskars but good luck finding one of those discounted. The one big advantage of the Fiskers is that the wheels sit inboard of the reel ends. This allows you to trim very close to lawn obstructions although the mower looks exceedingly odd. Other mowers will leave a 2-inch wide swath of uncut grass along all objects because the wheels are outboard of the reel.
Fiskars offers a sharpening/honing kit which appears to consist of sheets of emory paper and a hand crank so the owner can hone the mower blades with the mower on their work bench. Sounds like an early Spring job each year. And I imagine that job will belong to me.......
