They are really good kits and you can do it so "all" you have to supply is engine, tranny, wheels, tires and paint. That is what makes it a "kit." Having seen a bunch of them and talked with the owners, a F5 is probably the best way to go if you want to do a full build. A friend went to the build school Factory Five runs and said it is really worthwhile.
There are a bunch of the F5 Cobra roadsters locally (about 5 in my small town) but no Daytona Coupes that I know of. There are also a 3-4 Superformance versions and even a couple of the cheap kits that aren't worth even looking at. And two real Cobras. The Superperformance approach is to deliver a rolling chassis and you add the engine and drive train. More money, less time. And maybe better build quality.
The Daytona --which is the one I would do-- looks to be a moderately difficult build, but any good DIYer should be able to handle it. When I ran the numbers it came out to about $40K, which is a bit rich for me, considering it would just be a toy for me only. Then there's the 200-300 hours it would take to build it.
But there's a line in the brochure for the Daytona kits that I love: "It is the only car that makes a Dodge Viper driver appear to be wearing a skirt."
