One of my businesses is web development. I write and maintain sites mostly for businesses and nonprofits, so I've been around hardware & software for a while. ESET is by far the least intrusive of the bunch, IMHO. If you care about things like system performance, most of the others eat up system resources (which can affect how your computer operates), force you to install other software you don't want or need, etc.
I've been using ESET for many years on all of my machines, with nary a problem of any kind. If you buy it on sale from a place like Newegg, it's pretty inexpensive.
Back in the day, I went through most of the other AV software, finding it hard to maintain, obtrusive to the point of rendering some machines virtually unusable, etc. All of the other developers I know use ESET as well. Just my .02
