Sorry to hear of your loss.
Our youngest moved from New Haven, CT to Ann Arbor in July. He vacated an apartment in the city but his furniture tally was enough to comfortably furnish his two BR 1200 square foot Condo when he lived in Raleigh.
Cost was ~$3500 and included packing, loading, transport, unloading, and very limited unpacking (his stuff was delivered to a storage unit for a couple weeks before it could be moved into his new home). He also has two 75 gallon aquariums which needed to be crated for the move and are included in the above price.
Mover was Ace Van & Storage of Cheshire, CT. They are affiliated with United Van Lines. We got quotes from most of the national chains and Ace had the best price. Move went well, great guys, and very cooperative. They combine loads for the long distance transport. Check to see if they will do a pick-up in Boston.
I did the Ryder Truck method for most of our kid's previous moves but don't really want to schlep an entire home's worth of furniture anymore. The truck is only part of the cost. You also need a couple dozen furniture pads, an appliance truck, moving dollies, boxes(?), dunnage, and tape. The cost of these little items is shocking!
