Think about it! You created a short circuit condition and immediately lost ALL power. I have troubleshot and repaired lots and lots of circuit boards and from what you describe, it definitely sounds like a fuse is blown. PCB (circuit board) fuses can have many different appearances, so you have to take a more careful look at the board. Most circuit boards of this grade have markings (labels, usually colored white) to identify mounted components for locating purposes. For instance, resistors have the designation R, capacitors C, inductors L, IC’s are identified by U etc… The one we’re interested in is fuses, identified by F. These designations are followed by a number like R32, U12, C239 etc… but I won’t go into detail about the reason why as it’s unnecessary. Use a magnifying glass if you want, but you need to search on the circuit board for components with the F designation. If you find, say F8, then you know that there are at least 8 fuses on the board so you need to locate each fuse and then measure each with an ohmmeter/multimeter. Make some sort of drawing (a “map”) on a piece of paper showing the approximate location of each fuse you find and then go back and measure each of them. Use the beep function on your multi-meter for quicker analysis. A solid beep means it’s good. No beep sound means that it’s bad and needs to be changed. Now, removal and replacing the bad fuse is another matter altogether and if you do not have the know-how you should consult a specialist or someone who can help you (disclaimer).
