This may not be the case, but for some machines (washing machines in particular), the motors tend to have carbon brushes that wear. Mine ran out of length at ~10 years. For $20 give or take, these things are easily replaceable. Google your dishwasher's part number. There is an online parts place that has exploded parts diagrams for just about every machine out there it would seem. You may even find a youtube vid of the repair. If you don't mind some diy, it might work out.
We had friends with a 10-15y old Kitchen Aid dishwasher and they replaced it due to some unresolvable failure (according to the tech, these are not DIY types). That was around year 3-5. Kitchen aid of the 70's and 80's were tanks - many are probably still be running today. New kitchenaid less so. They are just part of the Whirlpool conglomerate, and in many cases, they just put nicer trim on the same eg fridge as Maytag or Amana... Not that those are bad products, but in some cases, it's like $600 or $800 worth on trim on the same basic fridge or whatever. Oh wait, your dishwasher is LG.
That is a heck of a lot of $$ for an insurance policy.
Miele does a similar approach - you can only really get repair from them (and they only fixe Miele). First service call is $200 + parts cost. All other labour for a year is free. They gave us free parts as part of the effort of diagnosing a tricky problem with our dishwasher. All in all, I was very happy with their service, but generally I DIY. Mieles last a long time.
I was in the grocery store the other day, and there was an ad over the in-store sound system for "pet insurance". Yes. Vet bills can be expensive. Insurance is the solution. Really? Only insure what you can't pay for out of pocket. Better to invest your money and make your own insurance policy!
